Rankings & Auto draft questions

Postby mjfhokie » Mon Jul 26, 2010 10:28 pm

I am a former user and am looking again for this year. I have 2 primary questions.

1. What is the source used for the ranking of players? Is it from an established site? When the ranking file is updated, has the entire list been updated or is it simply a fix of certain players? If it is not being updated continuously, what is the date of the ranking. Is there an ability to integrate ADP as an alternate ranking? Every year I get these questions at the draft along with intermittent comments on who was ranked too high or low. I would like to be able to give them an answer.

2. What really seems interesting for 2010 is Auto Draft. How does this work? Does it simply pick the highest ranked player overall or at specific positions? Is there a degree of randomness in who will be picked (for instance one of the top 3 instead of always the top pick)? Does it take into account the current positions on team's roster? Is there a way to prevent kickers from being picked until the last round? Is there a way to auto pick backups at key positions (i.e., RB) before picking up starters at other positions (such as TE, K, DST, or Coach)? Inevitably someone misses the draft or is late, and I want to make sure they are treated fairly (although some randomness is good so as not to reward the missing owner).

Overall, just want a little background on the strategies applied by the program. Thanks.

Hi there...

1. The rankings are from the Average Draft Position (ADP) of MyFantasyLeague.com So they are actualized numbers, and not an "expert opinion". These change modestly everyday, as more and more drafts take place at MFL. Of course you can manually change the rankings in the Player Setup area. You can update the FanDraft player database in the Player Setup > Update Player DB

2. This is based on a few things. The team needs. A minute amount of randomness (in the later rounds) and the top overall players.

Thanks,
